That’ll work for an overall visits count like you get from running the Visits report, but a metric set only on the first page of the Visit won’t attribute properly to evar values that are set later on. Evars only show metrics that happen after the evar value was set and before it expires.

I do the same thing on a regular basis with setting page views as a custom event. I just detect s.pageName first and I get data that matches exactly when placing s.pageName in an eVar. Works well for me.

We tried exactly the same thing with visits and yeah, the ranked reports are what kill you. I don’t really see a way to replicate the duping of the visits within a ranked report on the code side.
